Padel Ball VS Tennis Ball

Although Padel balls and Tennis balls may seem similar at first glance, these balls have distinct characteristics tailored to their respective sports, which we will highlight below.

It’s also important to know that Padel balls come in a variety of materials, which give them different characteristics and make them play differently. The fully wool balls are more expensive and often slower balls. The thicker wool material gives the player the ability to control the shot more, by adding more spin to the ball. The thicker wool also makes the balls slightly slower for a longer rally, which is perfect for high attitude and advanced games at Sea level.

Padel balls also come in a fully synthetic material covering the balls, such as fibreglass and nylon. This makes the ball more durable and a lot faster but lacks the control of a fully wool ball. These types of balls are much better for games at sea level.

Padel balls also come in a mix of natural felt (wool) fabrics and synthetic. Sometimes 50% each, other balls do have a more wool and some more synthetic, so find which ball suits your game and the conditions you are playing in and stick to those.

Understanding this difference in the balls, ensures you always have the right ball for your game, enhancing your performance and enjoyment of the sport.

  • Tennis balls are larger and heavier. Tennis balls have a diameter of 6.54 cm to 6.86 cm, making them more substantial in both size and weight.

  • Tennis Balls are more highly pressurised, allowing for a higher and faster bounce, suitable for the larger and more open Tennis courts. A Padel ball has a pressure of 14 PSI (Pounds per square inch)
  • Felt and Texture: Padel balls typically have a smoother felt, optimising their performance on the artificial grass, whilst Tennis balls have a thicker felt that endures the abrasive surface of Tennis courts, such as clay, grass, or hard courts.
  • Playability: Padel balls are Designed for quick volleys, strategic placements, and frequent rallies within a smaller court. Their lower bounce and lighter weight aid in maintaining control and precision. Tennis Balls are made for powerful serves, long rallies, and varied spins.
